May 11, 2024: New York Classics Conference -- Divine Intervention

As co-president of Trinity's Classics Club, Imaan organized the third annual New York Classics Conference. This conference was conceived to promote discourse between different levels of Classical study and to further unite the classical world with modern thoughts and events. Divine Intervention is pervasive across many ancient texts, and today we will hear about divine influence in literature including Vergil’s Aeneid, Ovid’s Metamorphoses, Homer’s Iliad, and more. Divine Intervention underscores the ancient belief in a universe where the divine and mortal realms are closely intertwined, reflecting a worldview where the gods play crucial roles in human affairs. In modern times, these narratives continue to influence perspectives, often informing discussions on fate, morality, and the human condition in literature and philosophy.

Annual Meeting at Classical Association of New England
Imaan applied and was accepted to present at CANE's annual meeting. Imaan was the youngest presenter at this Conference. She served on the panel of "Next Generations: New Perspectives" alongside three Classics students at the undergraduate level. Imaan presented her research and answered questions about translation studies and Classical reception.

May 22, 2023: Classics Continuum via Cooney Classics

Imaan applied and was accepted to speak at Cooney Classics' signature event, Classics Continuum, during Spring 2023. She spoke on architectural overlap between Rome and New York City, under the framework of what she loves to call the "arch" in architecture! Below is a recording of Imaan's presentation.

April 15, 2023: New York Classics Conference

Selected as one of three student speakers, Imaan represented New York City students of the Classics at NYCC 2023. The theme, "Regaining Control," prompted Imaan to research and give a speech on agency, free will, and a lack of both of them thereof, in Sophocles' Oedipus Rex. Imaan was the first speaker, introduced by Alexa Moses, founder of NYCC. Imaan had the privilege of presenting alongside three keynote speakers: Yelena Baraz (Professor of Classics at Princeton University), Ralph Rosen (Professor of Classics at the University of Pennsylvania), and Kirk Freudenberg (Professor of Classics at Yale University). Professor Rosen and Professor Baraz each posed a question to Imaan, which gave her the opportunity to think even more deeply about the text, answer the question, and engage in discourse.
